Wow . . . San Francisco circa 1975. Polk Street was the center of the city's gay community then -- which wasn't really a community in the sense that we know of it today.
I've often thought of myself as having been born ten years too late to have experienced gay life in San Fran in the early to mid '70s. Back then, the influence of the hippies was still very evident, as this now-40-year-old film attests.
I know of only one other gay film in which the sex scenes between the protagonists was honest-to-goodness lovemaking that tugged at my heartstrings. That other film is Arthur Bressan's "Passing Strangers," which came out in 1974.
"The Place Between Our Bodies" is as much a gay love story as "Passing Strangers" is.
You just don't see that kind of story in today's gay porn.
